The Richmond Scene

Last week I discovered both The Listening Room and The Richmond Scene for the first time. Relationship: the former is hosted by the latter.

"No talking during the show" is the mantra of The Listening Room series. Held at the Michaux House on 1133 W Franklin St, the goal is to provide a quiet and focused environment for both listening and performing. Also, the shows are free with donations encouraged to support the series. I experienced some amazing talent last week, including my personal favorite, Birdie Busch. Her music reminded me a lot of The Innocence Mission and a little bit of The Concretes. Super good. Ipanema catered and Apropos Roasters provided coffee. Richmonders provided the social ambiance. I highly recommend! The next event is scheduled for August 24. Join their Facebook page here.

The Richmond Scene is an awesome resource for local music and art events around town. Warning: you won't find any info on when The Dave Matthews Band is playing at The National. This group is more focused on local/indie talent. Check their site frequently for updates and sign up for a free membership. I spoke with the site's founder, Chris Payne, after the show and we may be collaborating more in the future. Watch out for some awesomeness.
