Spacebomb Records Launch Party

Spacebomb is the latest and greatest record label born out of Richmond. Its founders, Matt White (of The Great White Jenkins, Fight the Big Bull and Amazing Ghost fame), Dean Christesen, Jesse Medaries and Matt Rawls have created a label focused on a "house band" that serves as a vehicle to feature a rotating cast of talented collaborators. I think I can speak for all of us here at Minimalist when I say this is very exciting news. As long time lovers and listeners of all the projects that have stemmed from these musicians, we are thrilled to welcome another morphing big-noise band to the Richmond scene. From their website:

"Centered around a house band (think Stax or Motown), a distinct cast of contributing auxiliary musicians (think Phil Spector’s wrecking crew), division of labor (think Brill Building) and strong and unified musical and artistic statements (think Blue Note), Spacebomb is founded on old models, combining the creative structures and recording techniques of great record labels of the 20th century with the the DIY revolution of the last 40 years and the current digital music phenomenon. For each release, Spacebomb releases 1,000 beautiful hand-assembled vinyl records and distributes the music online."

RVAMag has posted an excellent interview with Matt White titled "I Like Big Sounds" posted here, and RVANews has their own interview with him here.

This evening, Spacebomb and featured musician Karl Blau will be hosting a launch party at the one and only Balliceaux. Sorry youngin', this event is 21+ only and there will be a $6 cover at the door. RSVP on Facebook here.

Honorary Minimalist contributor (via photography), Cameron Lewis, will be documenting the event.

Hope to see you there!
